Las Tunas.-Dr. Hugo Pérez Rojas, a Cuban scientist born in Las Tunas, won the 2023 Spirit of Salam Prize, awarded by the International Center for Theoretical Physics named after Abdus Salam, a Pakistani Nobel-winning scholar in this branch of The science.

Still admired by this recognition of his work, the Senior Researcher of the Institute of Cybernetics, Mathematics and Physics (ICIMAF), and founder of its Department of Theoretical Physics, expressed that this award is recognition of his work in organizing activities that benefit young researchers and, in general, the advancement of science in a developing country.

From his home, in the capital of the country, in telephone communication with Radio Victoria, this son of Las Tunas said that, at present, he and his work team are interested in the quantum theory of fields that leads to the analysis of depths. of the atom, in addition to the studies of general relativity, astrophysics and cosmology.

At 86 years old, Hugo Pérez Rojas remains active as a member of the Cuban Academy of Sciences, about his career and the recent award, the PhD in Physical-Mathematical Sciences Lilliam Álvarez Díaz, secretary of the institution, expressed that this encouragement It constitutes a well-deserved honor for someone who has dedicated his entire life to Theoretical Physics, and also to that governing structure of this task in the country.
