Las Tunas.- The application of environmentally friendly practices is consolidated after the incorporation of new agroecological farms, in the cooperative and peasant sector of the eight municipalities of Las Tunas, which is decisive for food production.
In an effort to alleviate the lack of material resources and achieve a healthy diet, local producers use animal traction, diversification and rotation of plantations, pest and disease control with natural products, and seed production.
They also prioritize soil nutrition and conservation with the use of biological fertilizers, mulching, drainage, furrowing against the slope, and the planting of cover crops that increase the fertility of the land, in addition to the promotion of hydroregulating strips.
